Run For Hope (RFH) is an annual charity event organized by Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, The Regent Singapore and the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) to raise much-needed funds for cancer research.
In the last 16 years, over S$3.2 million have been raised. What started as a small event with 300 runners, has grown steadily throughout the years. Reputed to be the single longest running event in support of cancer research in Singapore, RFH has seen over 80,000 runners since 1993! Last year the family-themed event witnessed around 6,000 participants. It is the goal of the RFH Committee to achieve 10,000 participants by 2010.
The NCC Research Fund (NCCRF) is the flagship fundraising and grant-making channel of NCCS for an array of basic, translational and clinical research programmes. Administered by the NCC Foundation, NCCRF fulfills two funding objectives - Seeding and Bridging. Seeding funds to facilitate emerging projects in cancer research and Bridging funds to ensure a sustainable productive momentum essential for ongoing research.
Last year, more than $330,000 was raised in benefit of lung cancer. Lung cancer patients will now benefit from a new technology - an auto-fluorescent bronchoscope machine that would detect lung cancer in the early stages, thereby greatly increasing the success of intervention and treatment.
